1-Week Workshop
1-5 minute silent continuity film Time: Five 2-hour classes Class One: Story Craft
Write a short script using basic storytelling and sceenwriting techniques, including how to create memorable characters with goals and high stakes. Class Two: Camera Craft Learn the grammar of filmmaking, including shot sizes, framing, lighting, and camera movement. Break down your script into shot lists and story boards. Class Three: Acting and Directing Learn how to improvise, how to talk to actors (and how NOT to talk to them), and how to block a scene, including how to create “marks.” Block and rehearse your script. Class Four: Shooting Experience how to manage a crew and direct actors on set by shooting your short film. You also crew on your teammates’ movies. Each student directs one film and crews/acts on other films. Class Five: Editing Learn basic continuity editing techniques to create the illusion of continuous time. |
2-Week Workshop
1-5 minute synch-sound film Time: Ten 2-hour classes WEEK ONE: See One-Week Workshop WEEK TWO: Class Six: Writing Dialogue Learn the importance of subtext. Write/finish dialogue scripts. Read and critique scripts. Class Seven: Sound and Lighting Practice recording sound directly into phone. Learn basic three-point lighting system. Create preproduction paperwork. Class Eight: Production Shoot continuity dialogue projects. Class Nine: Production Shoot continuity dialogue projects. Class Ten: Editing and Screening Edit films and screen rough cuts for class. Get feedback so you can finish your film. |
